I began my post-graduate studies in 2011, undertaking the Graduate Certificate in Catholic Education. This program of study is offered by Catholic Education South Australia in partnership with the University of South Australia. It is comprised of four semester-long units designed specifically for educators in Catholic schools, one of which must be undertaken as a university-enrolled course (either Theology or Scripture).
I have now completed the four courses required to achieve the certificate:
- Scripture (Semester 2, 2011 – university-enrolled)
- Systematic Theology (Semester 1, 2012)
- Religious Education Curriculum Design (Semester 2, 2012)
- Religious Education Methodology (Semester 1, 2013)
I have found these studies challenging and rewarding. Each course has built on my understanding of faith, religious traditions, and interpretation of scripture. I have been able to apply this new knowledge and skills set in my classroom, both through specific Religious Education lessons, and by embedding it across the curriculum in other subjects and through pastoral care.
