ACARA English as an Additional Language Teacher Resource – A resource for mainstream teachers to understand and assess the needs of EAL/D students in their classes. Includes the English Learning Progression with broad descriptions of learning behaviours of EAL/D students.
NSW Literacy Continuum K-6 and 7-10 – A document that identifies the literacy skills considered as critical at each stage of schooling. Useful for assessment of native-speakers, comparison with the development of EAL/D students who have been assessed against the Learning Progression, planning and teacher development.
ESL Scales – A long-standing document used by EAL/D specialist teachers and some mainstream classroom teachers to assess the language development of EAL/D students. It contains much greater detail than the Learning Progression. Currently not readily available in electronic form.
DEC Alignment of ESL Scales, Learning Progression and Literacy Continuum – A document that provides a graphic representation of where the three documents listed above intersect. Useful for confirming assessment decisions.
